Fall Out Boy Lyrics
Fall Out Boy music has a reputation for being off the wall and their lyrics definitely support that! Of all the Fall Out Boy lyrics that I have enjoyed, I think the autobiographical song by Pete Wentz, 7 Minutes in Heaven (Atavan Halen), is my favorite. The song describes an incident involving a sedative, Lorazepan (trade name Atavan), on which Wentz overdosed and lost consciousness. The song has a rushing, urgent feel to it, quite at odds with the imagined effects of such a relaxant, but it hits the spot:
7 Minutes in Heaven ((Atavan Halen)
I’m sleeping my way out of this one
With anyone who will lie down
I’ll be stuck fixated on one star
When the world is crashing down
I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I’m not the desperate type
But you’ve got me looking in through blinds
I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I’m not the desperate type
Sitting out dances on the wall
Trying to forget everything that isn’t you
I’m not going home alone
Cause I don’t do too well
Sitting out dances on the wall
Trying to forget everything that isn’t you
I’m not going home alone
Cause I don’t do too well on my own
The only thing worse than not knowing
Is you thinking that I don’t know
I’m having another episode
I just need a stronger dose
I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I’m not the desperate type
But you’ve got me looking in through blinds
I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I’m not the desperate type
Sitting out dances on the wall
Trying to forget everything that isn’t you
I’m not going home alone
Cause I don’t do too well
Sitting out dances on the wall
Trying to forget everything that isn’t you
I’m not going home alone
Cause I don’t do too well on my own
I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I’m not the desperate type
But you’ve got me looking in through blinds
I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I’m not the desperate type
Sitting out dances on the wall
Trying to forget everything that isn’t you
I’m not going home alone
Cause I don’t do too well on my own
Other Fall Out Boy lyrics that intrigue me includes the song Sugar, We’re Going Down from 2005’s Under the Cork Tree. This whole album was their finest hour in my opinion, the disc that showed the world how Emo could be taken seriously and attain the status of true art. The whole album was full of dark Fall Out Boy lyrics (and dark alleys) that seemed to haunt the listener almost palpably. Here are the lyrics to Sugar, We’re Going Down:
Sugar We’re Going Down
Am I more than you bargained for yet
I’ve been dying to tell you anything you want to hear
Cause that’s just who I am this week
Lie in the grass, next to the mausoleum
I’m just a notch in your bedpost
But you’re just a line in a song
(A notch in your bedpost, but you’re just a line in a song)
Drop a heart, break a name
We’re always sleeping in, and sleeping for the wrong team
We’re going down, down in an earlier round
And Sugar, we’re going down swinging
I’ll be your number one with a bullet
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
[x2]
Is this more than you bargained for yet
Oh don’t mind me I’m watching you two from the closet
Wishing to be the friction in your jeans
Isn’t it messed up how I’m just dying to be him
I’m just a notch in your bedpost
But you’re just a line in a song
(Notch in your bedpost, but you’re just a line in a song)
Drop a heart, break a name
We’re always sleeping in, and sleeping for the wrong team
We’re going down, down in an earlier round
And Sugar, we’re going down swinging
I’ll be your number one with a bullet
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
[x2]
Down, down in an earlier round
And Sugar, we’re going down swinging
I’ll be your number one with a bullet
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
We’re going down, down in an earlier round (Take aim at myself)
And Sugar, we’re going down swinging (Take back what you said)
I’ll be your number one with a bullet (Take aim at myself)
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
We’re going down, down (down, down)
Down, down (down, down)
We’re going down, down (down, down)
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
We’re going down, down in an earlier round (Take aim at myself)
And Sugar, we’re going down swinging (Take back what you said)
I’ll be your number one with a bullet (Take aim at myself)
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
There are many more Fall Out Boy lyrics I could mention but you can find them elsewhere. I just can’t wait for the next Fall Out Boy tour dates to be released and to see them live. This is one band that you never forget. The as-yet unreleased 2008 album is to be entitled Folie à Deux and I believe this one will contain some even stranger and original Fall Out Boy music than ever before. If all the hints and comments from the band are to be believed, this disc will be an amazing blend of Punk Rock, Rap, Folk and other queer bedmates. The first thing I’ll do when the Fall Out Boy tour schedule is out of the bag is buy Fall Out Boy tickets and head out for some mad gigging from one of the best Emo-Punk fusion mobs around. Fall Out Boy are truly quality - or as those in the know say, kerrwolateh!
Capiche?
